In Web performance we reroute the traffic.. It's not a huge difference between on premise and cloud because we are outside the DC.

One should think about deploying Edge Delivery when deploying and new application

All Internet facing application are potential candidates for different type of attacks where I have to be prepared.

Classically the attack is handled at the compute center border where I install WAF-Web application firewalls, handle DDoS –Distributed Denial of Service- attacks and have installed other rule based protection.

It requires continuous maintenance and 7/24 operation to react on attacks close to the point they are started with very experience and skilled resources.

Gartner and Forrester expect that this model will not scale and I have to think on protection which starts away from my internet connection.

If you are seeking a complete defense, we will need to break attacks into 2 categories. You will need a volume defense and a web application vulnerability defense.

Volumetric attacks are often called Distributed Denial of Service attacks, and can overwhelm datacenters with even the largest inbound service capacity.

Web application vulnerabilities can allow even just a single malicious request to result in downtime, datatheft, or defacement.

You’ll want network and application firewall appliances in your datacenter, as well as a remote scrubbing and web application firewall solution.

Definitely want to be mindful of what they're trying to accomplish. If performance is key, the offer should demonstrate improvement

The key points are -
expected number of concurrent users / peak loads like web campaigns / transaction business

if reliability is a key factor, then ensure the offer being used has the necessary redundancy

CDN is thinking different to deliver IT services and requires to get IT and business on the same page because it’s direct connected to the application but not to the client IT infrastructure.

At this point CIO, CMOs and business line leaders have to establish a joined strategy on CDN integration and responsibility. CIO can benefit by providing more consumption elements, reduce bandwidth requirements and get more flexible.

CMO can drive end user experience excellence and the business line can possibly increase the speed to market and decrease initial IT investments.

Most CDNs are easy to integrate. Industry leaders require only a DNS record change to seamlessly receive requests from your users and direct the unique requests back to your DC.
