John Furrier wraps up theCUBE coverage at Enterprise Connect 2016
Tim Crawford
UC, Enterprise Communications, Skype, ChatOps, Msg apps serve many different needs. Not well appreciated nor understood today.
John Furrier
Totally agree; Enterprise search and discovery went thru this transformation; legacy can be baggage
John Furrier
#cloudnative seems easier bc it's a greenfield technically so that seems sexy way
Tim Crawford
Legacy can be baggage...but it is reality. Can't ignore it.
Tim Crawford
#cloudnative and greenfield are always sexier. But reality has a harsh way of coming back up again and again.
John Furrier
do we then have #hybridUC ? or #hybridUCC -@jimlundy @jimburton we need some brainpower
Tim Crawford
@furrier IMHO: We need a whole new approach to UC/UCC strategy.
John Furrier
agree but reality is enterprise has pre-existing conditions; we need obamacare for UC
John Furrier
BINGO Tim you're on this
Tim Crawford
@furrier Yep. That's part of the point. We need a new approach that is truly encompassing the full spectrum.
John Furrier
There is a great oppty here in this sector. All the data we study show this is going to explode hence #theCUBE being here
Tim Crawford
@furrier The "comms" opportunity didn't go away. It just exploded in different ways. This not well understood...unfortunately.
John Furrier
. @tcrawford @SiliconANGLE theCUBE @wikibon has 100% track record of picking winners #megatrends #predictive
John Furrier
we will surf this transformation of UC to UCC or BC (business communications)

If msft feels that skype is struggling which it appears it is - then making a run at Slack then skype is in danger
Bert Latamore
I have some experience with Skype for Business. It is a little frustrating.
John Furrier
Skype has an opportunity to do something no else can do and win the entire game; of course it's a secret
John Furrier
There is a silent war going on in #UCC meet #cloudNative religons
John Furrier
Skype will lose if they don't wake up and get on the Azure bus
Bert Latamore
Skype definitely needs to be integrated better with Azure and provide services specifically for companies that run on Azure, as Yammer is doing.
John Furrier
Albert Kooiman of #Microsoft reiterates "#SIP is dead" #EC16 #Webrtc #ORTC http://www.via-cc.at...

John Furrier
SIP is dead or Skype is dead?
Tim Crawford
Neither Skype nor SIP is dead. Nor will be for some time.
John Furrier
@tcrawford remember when I was talking to Josh Silverman then Tony Bates re: skype oppty; Skype missed social
John Furrier
Skype is global brand; they have killer feature & I bet they have no idea what it is
Tim Crawford
There have been many miss opps w/ UC. Still opps there...but miss-matched w/ tech today.
John Furrier
I will be interviewing Zig after his keynote on Wed. Can't wait. I'm a skype fan
John Furrier
totally agree @tcrawford ask @alexlewis he knows where all the UC bodies are burried

IBM did a big deal with Box but Dropbox is really killing it - who is partnering with them https://blogs.dropbo...
Celebrating half a billion users
With 500 million signups, it’s exciting to see Dropbox connecting people around the world with everything that’s important to them.
John Furrier
Dropbox users have created 3.3 billion connections by sharing with each other. That’s a 51% jump in just the last year.
44% of new accounts were opened when existing users introduced people to Dropbox.
Virginia Backaitis
The challenge for Dropbox is monetezation and for that to happen they need IT's blessing. They can win small businesses over, they're still challenged with the Enterprise

Slack and Skype for business going to war; Tech developers weight in on hackernews cc @siliconangle https://news.ycombin...
Source: Microsoft mulled an $8B bid for Slack, will focus on Skype instead | Hacker News
Unless Microsoft rebuilds Skype for the ground up, I don't see us leaving Slack for it. They had their chance, and they dropped the ball.
John Furrier
Slack can be beaten by the big players #agile is the key for big boys to get going on

@ca_bshimmin says I agree with @tbanting that UC vendors do get the value of professional services. Why then lean heavily on SI/VARs to solve bus probs?
John Furrier
the key to @ca_bshimmin point is that #UCC must be operationalized and #cloudnative is driving new things
John Furrier
One of my fav interviews from #EC16 this is why cloud is great; creating value is easy; watch this interview; fun & compelling https://www.youtube....
