How can hybrid cloud help you?
How can hybrid cloud help you unlock new business opportunities faster?
Guy Clapperton
Not everyone uses hybrid cloud - what are the drivers away from it?
Compare the Cloud
I think personally the drive is towards Hybrid from Public, people want SLA and Application guarantees..
Guy Clapperton
Is the market actually moving that way or is that what people *ought* to be doing?
Doug Clark
completely see that Guy, dappling in public, then looking back into the on-prem potential...seeing that with insurance, travel/transport, banking, pharma
Guy Clapperton
Interesting - thanks.
Guy Clapperton
Let's consider security too - what changes when you look at security in the cloud?
Bill Mew
Security is critical in all environments - whether on premise, #Cloud or #Hybrid - with #Cloud environments often MORE secure
Guy Clapperton
There's an issue, though, when smaller businesses *assume* security rather than check.
Doug Clark
security has to be totally embedded in the strategy...not just for cloud but for the entire enterprise model
Guy Clapperton
Excellent point, Doug.
Bill Mew
many assume on premise is more secure WRONG - your own staff are the main risk and #Cloud providers often have more security skills and better tech
Guy Clapperton
Obviously you have to select the right cloud partner there - I've heard horror stories.
Bill Mew
Yes - right supplier is essential - It is buyer beware, but there are enough quality providers out there
Doug Clark
@borretm can help anyone with their security concerns he's out CTO for IBMSecurity..."cars have brakes to go faster"
Guy Clapperton
Do the benefits outweigh the time and cost of rearchitecting applications for the hybrid cloud?
Doug Clark
its a journey
Bill Mew
@cloudstuff It is a journey to a more cost effective agile and scalable environment
Doug Clark
you evolve starting with easier workloads...maybe using public or private off-prem for some workloads
Doug Clark
as you start to see the momentum build you consider the more and more complex legacy estate...maybe at refresh times
Bill Mew
@cloudstuff great point - gradual migration with scalable agile endpoint in mind
Guy Clapperton
In the early days I saw a lot of businesses go on the 'journey' without a destination in mind...
Doug Clark
then move them to the most appropriate cloud environment, could be on or off-prem, but fully orchestrated to max the integrational value of the data - system of insight
Bill Mew
Cloud is no longer a cost play - it is about agility, speed and scalability - marketplaces from AWS IBM etc enable this
Bill Mew
the differences is that AWS doesn't want to play on premise or in #Hybrid - which is what companies need
Russ
agree, it's the balance of internal assets and external services. Using the external cloud to meet with demand for a product or service. Seasonal peaks could require additional resources, but the key is consistency of the delivery
Guy Clapperton
Many thanks to all who've taken part in the PureAppChat - it's been a lot of fun.
Bill Mew
Wanted to thank my colleagues here on the #PureAppChat @GuyClapperton @RussRawlings @Cloudstuff AND all those that joined us - both identified and anonymous
Doug Clark
Hey Gav!
Guy Clapperton
Time for a couple of last questions from anyone in this debate - we have to wind up in a minute or two
