Any thoughts on Project Spartan new browser and app platform http://channel9.msdn...
Chris Louie
The Icon is the same as IE :)
Marina Donovan
@Chlouie seems confusing to use same icon.
John Furrier
this brings up the notion of native apps in the cloud and security around them.
Adnan Hendricks
Well its similar don't forget the same IE 11 is still there to be used, Edge/Spartan will give a richer more secure web browsing experience and will be the future
Marina Donovan
@Microspecialist Makes sense to keep IE11. Using the same icon will be confusing. Hope the updates are seamless and timely :).
Adnan Hendricks
Well what I see is most companies are on IE11 running windows7 so migrating to Windows10 from a browser app point of view should be a seamless transition
Leon Brown
@Microspecialist Are you saying W10 becomes the new Chrome?
Leon Brown
@Microspecialist Or Edge is the new Chrome for MS apps? Interesting thought...
Adnan Hendricks
You wouldn't be the first person to make that comment ;)
John Furrier
Question for Adnan and folks here: How do you feel about Windows 10 and how do you think the new OS will change the way businesses operate?
Leon Brown
The convenience of adding 2-factor authentication will be big, though it may be gated by any mandatory Azure AD requirements...
Chris Louie
Companies that adopt Win 10 Enterprise early will definitely want to take advantage of EDP to prevent copy/paste of sensitive information and on-by-default encryption
John Furrier
what about data-in-motion for devices and windows? is that a problem area you guys are seeing
Adnan Hendricks
I'm excited about it I know lots of us are testing and its really going to appeal to those enterprise environments still on windows7 that feel windows8/8.1 is too much of a UX change
Marina Donovan
@Microspecialist do you think enterprises will go from #Windows7 to #Windows10 in the next 15 months?
Adnan Hendricks
Well if they will be getting it free for the first year , enterprises with SA should get it free aswell application compatibility has also improved so I don't see why not
Chris Louie
@Marina__Donovan Some companies are as agile as an oil tanker. A few customers I spoke with JUST got to Win 7 from XP. Some Fortune 100 companies sill on XP!
Marina Donovan
@Microspecialist what if customers don't have SA and want to migrate to #Windows10? will there be other ways to get a license?
Adnan Hendricks
They can always buy a license or step up their agreements @Chlouie I still come across companies like that aswell
Marina Donovan
@Microspecialist Where is the best place for enterprises to get the latest info on licensing?
Adnan Hendricks
They could read up on https://www.microsof... or contact their Microsoft account manager if they have one or software supplier
Marina Donovan
For folks who did not get to attend Ignite and learn about#Windows10, check out roadshow with @stephenlrose https://itpro.mobili...
John Furrier
What was the biggest tranformative thing in enterprise security at the MS Ignite show?
John Furrier
IT is not the center of the universe anymore is it? Cloud allows business units (non-IT) to drive their own "bus"
Leon Brown
Certainly self-serve IT is growing, but it is more about enabling orgs with smaller or no IT groups IMO
Adnan Hendricks
Well most of my communication with clients has less to do with actual technology in the beginning but more how they do business and often now with the end users in mind instead of just pushing a particular brand or technology
Marina Donovan
@leonnyan - Perhaps that's the future. I think businesses drive IT priorities, but ultimately IT makes stuff happen and has to ensure it's secure.
John Furrier
@Microspecialist that's awesome bc that is the main think #value - tech enables outcomes which if good drive value
John Furrier
. @Microspecialist I'll rephrase what is the coolest tranformative outcome you've seen with your customers using cloud and mobile
Adnan Hendricks
I'll mention a few Cutting cost, speeding up transactions or processes that had a longer turn around not being tied down to location one client even got closer to their customers instead of their clients running to them, how's that for customer service.
John Furrier
IT touches everything imo so they need to be rebooted to have services across the entire enterprise and serve the business (apps/data/security)
Chris Louie
finally using the hardware TPM for other than BitLocker, Built-in encryption with W10/Office 2016, file-level encryption so you can use your SD card to store secure data and vacation photos
John Furrier
the most profound thing I see is that systems/dbs/security can both be architected to be both "big and fast" something hard to do just years ago
Chris Louie
Excited about Windows Hello but will have to see how they execute and could be hampered with new hardware requirements (IR cameras, better fingerprint readers)
Adnan Hendricks
it really takes a different mind set for one of our clients they managed to make away with expensive real estate / office buildings employees had to get used to not having a workplace, working from home or other open offices
Leon Brown
@Chlouie Windows Hello is interesting, and coupled with the Virtual Security Module (VSM) where it can be stored securely very powerful.
Leon Brown
My biggest takeaway from #MSIgnite regarding #WindowsToGo from people coming to our booth was adoption was happening - this is different from a year ago where pilots and tests were the norm.
John Furrier
. @leonnyan my biggest takeaway from Microsoft Ignite was the focus on the mobile enterprise and big data
John Furrier
. @leonnyan on a separate note we are doing research on cloud and Azure is doing very well so that will be a driver as well in terms of security and device mgt issues
Chris Louie
@furrier Cloud First, Mobile First
Leon Brown
@furrier Microsoft also brought back RMS - building in per document rights management within MS eco-system apps
John Furrier
. @leonnyan any thoughts on best security for data-at-rest AND data-in-motion on encrypted USB devices and Window To Go??
rolfwagnerjr
My biggest takeaway from talking to customers at #MSIgnite in the #IronKey booth was their understanding and need for PC-on-A-Stick & the many interesting use cases.
Adnan Hendricks
If you attended the Windowstogo session from Microsoft pfe's you could see from the amount of hands in the room that adoption was increasing
Leon Brown
@furrier The short answer - it depends. For portable #SecureUSB devices hardware encrypted devices are the best. Tracking Data-in-Motion is big - encryption in transit, rights management, policy based archive all can play a part.
John Furrier
. @Microspecialist what's the core new feature people were jazzed about?
Marina Donovan
@Microspecialist #WindowsToGo is a great way to test and experience #Windows10 before a mass deployment
Adnan Hendricks
RMS on data on all devices both enterprise and byod universal apps, containerization of apps its hard to find that one major thing, for me it was really Azure AD join and the enhanced security
Chris Louie
Any thoughts on universal apps? You will soon have the exact same code run on Windows Phone, Xbox One, Azure, Laptops, Tablets, Servers
John Furrier
. @Chlouie great question I was going in this direction; reusable code for any cloud any device - how to secure it?
John Furrier
. @Chlouie I was just saying why put security in the OS anymore that is the old way?
Leon Brown
I like the concept - and it has been tried before. The challenge is the user experience - you still have to build experiences per device. One massive responsive design!
John Furrier
agree @leonnyan one benefit of native apps on devices is to take advantage of the devices form factor and unique features which changes the argument a bit
Chris Louie
@leonnyan During the Keynote, they showed SQL Server 2016 on-prem seamlessly scaling to SQL Server 2016 in Azure to handle temporary bursts of database traffic. All possible because on-prem and Azure run the same SQL Server 2016 code.
Adnan Hendricks
Getting than same code running everywhere , same settings everywhere we all want that seamless user experience
rolfwagnerjr
For the best user experience in mobile devices you need Native. I've talked to many developers who went HTML5 vs iOS Native, and they ran into roadblocks. Universal has its place, but that place is only a thin layer of a deep ocean.
